Al-Qaeda leader calls for lone wolf attacks on West

The Al-Qaeda leader hailed the past month’s attacks by Palestinians against Israelis in Jerusalem and elsewhere in Israel and the West Bank.

Ayman al-Zawahiri

Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri has called for lone wolf attacks against Western countries, in particular America, and praised recent Palestinian attacks against Israelis.

Zawahiri spoke in a video released on Twitter and published and translated on Monday by US-based SITE, which monitors violent extremist websites.

SITE noted that the video was broadcast on Twitter on Sunday, rather than on extremist websites as is usually the case.

“The first matter is striking the West and specifically America in its own home, and attacking their interests that are spread everywhere,” Zawahiri said, according to SITE.

“The supporters of Israel must pay with their blood and their economy.”

As examples of lone wolf attacks, he cited the 2013 Boston Marathon bombers Tamerlan and Dzokhar Tsarnaev. Their attack with pressure cooker bombs killed three people and wounded 264.

The Al-Qaeda leader hailed the past month’s attacks by Palestinians against Israelis in Jerusalem and elsewhere in Israel and the West Bank.

He also repeated an appeal first launched in September for jihadists to unite from Turkey to North Africa, despite his rejection of the caliphate proclaimed by the Islamic State group, which controls large swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria.

A US-led coalition of countries has been bombing IS positions since August 2004.

Brits in Costa Del Sol, Costa Brava and Costa Blanca now ‘top targets for ISIS attack’

September 1, 2015

Source: Dailystar.co.uk

SPANISH beaches packed full of holidaying Brits could be the next target for an Islamic State attack, a security expert has warned.

Terror Spain Tourists

The Costa Brava, Costa Blanca and Costa Del Sol have been highlighted as key threat areas with fears of a Tunisia-style atrocity being repeated in Spain.

The Daily Star Online revealed earlier this week how UK tourists are being labeled as “high value” targets by ISIS extremists.

In a chilling warning, Spain’s interior minister said counter-terror chiefs were working “day and night” to thwart any attacks.

And a top counter-terrorism chief has now singled out the popular Spanish coastline as an area Islamist killers have in their sights.

Will Geddes, head of global security firm International Corporate Protection, says Spanish authorities have ramped up armed patrols near holiday hotspots with fears of a “Sousse-like” attack from the sea.

He told us: “The framework and method for ISIS attacks would lead them to potentially attack tourist resorts as seen recently in Tunisia.

“So the likes of Costa Brava, Costa Blanca and Costa Del Sol are at risk.”

Beaches rammed full of Brits near the likes of Barcelona, Alicante and Malaga are thought to be most at risk.

While busy major city centres such as the capital Madrid and Valencia are also thought to be likely targets for a mass-casualty attack.

Mr Geddes added: “My sources say authorities are raising the presence of Guarda (civil guards) and police to protect tourists from any possible plots and provide an increased presence for reassurance.

“They are keeping watchful eyes on any historically attacked locations, such as train stations, bus terminals, government buildings as well as areas with large amounts of people and especially tourists.

“The increasing security presence in tourist regions will be to prevent Spain falling foul to a Sousse-like attack.”

His comments come after Spain raised its security level to the highest since the 2004 Madrid bombings which killed 191 people.

The Spanish interior minister has said police were doing everything they could to ensure the safety of the people.

Jorge Fernández Díaz tweeted: “Guardia civil policia will work day and night to minimise the terrorist alert”

Over 12 million Brits travel to Spain every year.

Many own holiday homes in the likes of Benidorm, Marbella and Fuengirola.

While others escape the UK for a holiday to the Spanish coast – known for its sun, sea, sangria and sand.

But Mr Geddes explained Spain has somewhat surprisingly been battling terrror for a number of years despite it not being widely reported in the UK.

He said: “The country raised its security level a month ago, the highest (Level 4 of 5) since the 2004 Madrid Bombings, as a result of an increase in intelligence chatter about ISIS.

“So far it is estimated around 120 Spanish people have fled to join ISIS.”

And the security source explained that it is not just Spain at threat of a large-scale attack.

“Virtually every country across Europe has been affected by the rise of ISIS,” he said.

“Both in terms of nationals travelling to Syria and Iraq as well as domestic radicalisation.

“This includes countries you wouldn’t generally think have people joining the terror regime – such as in Finland, Belgium and Sweden.

“It is a global virus.”

Tunisia Terror

Yesterday the Foreign Office urged Brits in Tunisia to fly home immediately following last month’s Tunisia terror attack, which saw 30 Brits shot dead on a popular tourist beach in Sousse.

It has warned against all but essential travel to the North African country as 3,000 Brit tourists and Thomson and First Choice reps are urgently flown out of Tunisia amid fears another attack is now imminent.

In their Spanish advice statement, the Foreign Office said: “There is a high threat from terrorism.

“Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners.

“There is considered to be a heightened threat of terrorist attack globally against UK interests and British nationals, from groups or individuals motivated by the conflict in Iraq and Syria.

“You should be vigilant at this time.”

A ten point safety plan has been released telling Brits to stay vigilant for terror attacks before jetting off on holiday.

The advice ranges from checking local news sources to making yourself aware of safe locations in the area.

IS Terror Attacks Tunisia Turkey Danger

US:

The U.S. Embassy recommends that U.S. citizens in Tunisia maintain a high level of vigilance, as terrorism remains a significant concern.

U.S. citizens should exercise caution when frequenting public venues that are visited by large numbers of foreigners, such as hotels, shopping centers, tourist sites and restaurants. Two recent attacks targeted foreign tourists: March 18, 2015, at the Bardo Museum in Tunis; and June 26, 2015 near Sousse at the Riu Imperial Marhaba and Riu Bellevue Park hotels.  The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claimed responsibility for both attacks.  U.S. citizens should also be alert to the possibility of kidnapping.

Terrorist organizations have also targeted Tunisian security forces and government installations.  The Tunisian government officially designated the group Ansar As-Sharia in Tunisia (AAS-T), a group with known anti-U.S. and anti-Western sentiments, as a terrorist organization on August 27, 2013.  The Tunisian government continues security force operations against AAS-T, ISIL and al Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM).  The Tunisian President declared a state of emergency throughout the country on July 4, 2015, giving the Tunisian government greater powers to control public order.

NSA Data Shows Islamic State Plans Series of Terror Attacks in Europe

January 11 , 2015

According to recorded phone conversations of IS leaders, Europe should be expecting a wave of terror and the events in France are only the beginning.

ISIS IS

According to US National Security Agency (NSA) data, the recent events in France are only the beginning of Islamic State (IS) radical organization’s planned series of terrorist attacks in Europe, Bild am Sonntag reported Sunday.

A few months ago, NSA staff was able to tap phone conversations of IS leaders, of which it became known that Europe should be expecting a wave of terror and the events in France were only the beginning.

Eight Charlie Hebdo cartoonists were murdered Wednesday by Islamist terrorists Cherif and Said Kouachi, who also killed police officers outside the magazine’s office.

Je Suis Charlie Paris Hedbo

Another attacker, Amedy Coulibaly, who is believed to have had links to the brothers, killed four hostages in a supermarket in eastern Paris on Friday. He is also reported to be behind the murder of a policewoman that took place in southern Paris on Thursday.

There is no specific information about the plans of the Islamic State, but the recorded conversations mentioned Rome, the newspaper said.

Earlier in January, the head of the British intelligence agency MI5 Andrew Parker said that al-Qaeda is planning attacks on Western countries. According to him, in particular, the terrorist group is preparing attacks on transport infrastructure and landmarks, and the terrorist attacks in the United Kingdom could occur with high probability. Parker added that the Islamic State is also planning attacks in the country.

Islamic State (IS), also known as Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), has taken over large portions of Iraq and neighboring Syria and proclaimed a caliphate on the territories under its control.
