Deputies are seeking a Pontiac man who is accused of striking a woman and then driving off with their child early Saturday morning.

Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Balboa Place and Granada Drive at around 1:30 a.m. Saturday where they spoke with a 22-year-old Pontiac woman. She said she was riding in a vehicle with her baby’s father, a 24-year-old Pontiac man, when she demanded that she and her 4-month-old child be dropped off because, she told police, the father was driving while intoxicated, according the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim said they stopped at a gas station at Martin Luther King Boulevard and Featherstone when the suspect struck her in the head and dragged her out of the car by her hair before pushing her to the ground. The suspect then drove off with the 4-month-old girl in the vehicle.

The victim told deputies that the suspect is not listed on the child’s birth certificate and there’s no custody order established.
Deputies then broadcast a “be on the lookout” for the suspect and vehicle. They then attempted to locate the child by making contact with the suspect’s family with no success. Sheriff’s dispatchers reported the suspect had returned the child to the victim’s home at around 5:20 a.m.
After verifying that the child was returned safely, deputies searched the area for the suspect, who had reportedly left on foot. An investigation is currently under way and detectives are seeking warrants for the suspect’s arrest.
